Brig. Gen. Paul Tibbets (Ret.)

The gentleman above is going to speak in VA this Saturday. This is a unique chance to hear his perspective on a major historical event.

For those who don't know the name, Gen Tibbets was the pilot of the Enola Gay on August 6, 1945. No matter how one feels about what occurred, this should be a special learning opportunity.

Always getting the weird questions...

Today I helped out the North American Young Generation in Nuclear at the local Science Museum (Engineering Career Day). As always, I did not get asked the most questions, just the weird ones. This time a boy wanted to know how an Americium smoke detector works.

I'm just thankful he didn't want to know how to make spoonbread or omelettes. That's outta my league. ;-)

Chocolate Creme Brulee

My latest success in time for Valentine's Day. Made chocolate creme brulee for the Mrs. She really liked it. Now on to the next "experiment". ;-)

Friend's Book Back in Print

My friend Ted Rockwell wrote an excellent memoir on Adm Hyman Rickover. The book went out of print for a while, but now it is back. The new publisher will have soon have it on their website.

For those who never heard of Rickover, he was a naval officer who convinced the US Navy to build the first nuclear powered submarine. He essentially directed the conversion of the US Navy from diesel subs to nuclear power. While Rickover remains a controversial figure to this day, it is certainly a great case study in how one person can have a major impact on society.
